What am I doing today?

Today is just another ordinary day.  Here's a glimpse of what's going on around our house today.

Every day is laundry day around here.  Is laundry every day at your house, too?

School is happening; not at the pace I'd like to see, but it is slowly getting done!

Banana Nut bread, fresh from the oven.  It smells so yummy!

Trying to sort and put away coupons from last Sunday!

Old Jeans into New Skirt

My daughter has been needing some new clothes lately.  She is growing so fast, I can't keep up her wardrobe!  A while back my mom gave me some jeans that she thought I could repurpose.  I finally took the time to change a pair of jeans and a pair of cargo pants into cute skirts for Amanda.  I didn't get a before picture, but I promise, they were just your everyday jeans and cargo pants.

First, cut the legs off the jeans longer than you want the skirt.  Then rip open the inside leg seams, and up the front and back of the crotch area.  Then you overlap the flaps, and sew them together.  You'll have to cut out the excess from the inside.
After you sew the seam down the front and back, you'll be left with a triangle missing.  Use a piece from the legs you cut off to fit into the spot.  I used a double seam to try to mimic the original look of the seams I ripped out.
This is what the back looks like.  I think it turned out just perfectly.
Well, apparantly I didn't take any pics of the cargo pant/skirt, but it's pretty much the same, except it has the pockets on the side of the legs.  I'll have to keep my eye out for some more cute pants to recycle.  As longs as Amanda likes them and will wear them, I'll make them!

Matching Skirts

A while back I went thrift shopping and ended up buying a flat sheet because I liked the fabric.  You can read all about that shopping trip here.  This is what it looked like.  At the time I had no idea what I was going to do with it, so it just sat there in my sewing room for a couple months.

Then last week, a friend sent me a link to a tutorial for a tiered skirt, which I wanted to try out.  As I was searching for some fabric that I'd have enough of, I came across the sheet.  I'm not sure what size it was, but it would be enough to try that tutorial!  When I got done with my skirt, I thought, wouldn't it be cute if I could make Amanda a matching skirt?  As I looked at what was left of the sheet, I realized there might be enough of it if I turned the way the stripes run!

I just love the way they turned out!  They're so comfortable and easy to make, I'll definitely be making more.  I think for my next one I'll try 2 or 3 tiers instead of 4, just to save some fabrice and time gathering!

We even had matching stars and stripes flip flops!  It was fun to match my Baby Girl for a day!  I'll be doing it again soon, I hope!
